2019 Peru Medical Mission: Celebrating 10 Years of Service

The 2019 medical mission marked an important milestone for our organization as we celebrated 10 years of providing healthcare services to remote communities in the Peruvian Highlands. Over the past decade, our volunteers have traveled to underserved regions where access to medical care is limited, building lasting relationships and improving the health and well-being of countless individuals and families.

During the 2019 mission, our team provided care to nearly 600 patients living in communities with little to no access to healthcare services. In addition to medical evaluations and treatment, we distributed more than 500 toothbrushes, over 10,000 vitamin tablets, 30 vitamin B injections, and 70 pairs of reading glasses. Warm clothing was provided to community members, and small toys were shared with local children.

One of our clinic sites was the community of Sacaca, located approximately 50 kilometers from Pisac. This was a return visit for our team, having previously held a clinic there four years earlier. Many residents remembered our prior visit and shared how the care and treatment they received had made a meaningful difference in their lives. More than 100 community members attended the clinic, highlighting the ongoing need for accessible healthcare services in the region.

Our mission also brought us back to Huaran, the site of our very first clinic ten years earlier. Returning to where our journey began provided an opportunity to reflect on the growth and impact of the program over the past decade. Throughout the day, we met individuals who had traveled great distances to receive care, including two sisters who walked barefoot down a mountainside for more than two hours and a woman who arrived by wheelchair seeking treatment for an infection.

These stories serve as powerful reminders of the healthcare challenges many rural communities continue to face and reinforce the importance of bringing medical services directly to those who need them most.

The success of the 2019 mission would not have been possible without the dedication of our volunteers and the generosity of those who donated supplies, resources, and financial support. As we celebrated this 10-year milestone, we also began exploring opportunities to expand our outreach efforts to other underserved regions around the world, continuing our commitment to improving access to compassionate healthcare wherever it is needed most.
